Events and Activities
The ALS Association Greater Los Angeles Chapter holds numerous events and activities for patients and caregivers, including our support group meetings, caregiver seminars, and "Ask the Experts" educational programs. In addition, the Chapter holds a number of annual events to raise awareness and funds that help provide valuable services to people living with ALS, and support research to find new treatments and a cure to Lou Gehrig's disease. Please join us at a fundraising event, support group or other activity. We would love to see you soon.
Support Group Meetings
The ALS Association Greater Los Angeles Chapter has 10 affiliated support groups in Bakersfield, Loma Linda, Long Beach, Pasadena, Riverside County, San Bernardino County, Santa Clarita Valley, Ventura County, West Los Angeles, and a Spanish Speaking group that currently meets in South Gate. Fundraising Events
The Chapter holds several fundraising events each year to help support our many patient services, equipment loan programs, case managers, support groups, educational symposiums, research endeavors, and other activities to serve ALS patients.
Walk to Defeat ALS TM The 2009 Walk to Defeat ALS TM represent the ninth year the Chapter has sponsored these wonderful events that help raise awareness of ALS and the funds necessary to provide services to patients with Lou Gehrig's disease and support research efforts that help lead to new treatments and a cure. The Chapter now holds four Walks each year: San Bernardino/Riverside County and Ventura/Santa Barbara County in the Spring, and Kern County and Los Angeles County in the Fall. Lockton Authentic Swing Charity Golf Classic Also now in its ninth year, the Lockton Authentic Swing Charity Golf Classic has proven to be a fun and exciting way to support the Chapter while enjoying a terrific day on the course. Held at the beautiful Valencia Country Club, the tournament has featured PGA Tour professional and Honorary Chair Jason Gore, who auctioned the opportunity to play with him at a later date, and for the past two years, a special Texas Hold 'Em Poker Tournament. Entry in the golf tournament not only includes an exciting day of golf, but also a sensational player gift package, and delicious food and drinks provided by local restaurants throughout the day. CytRx Strike Out Lou Gehrig's Disease All Star Invitational Tournament The CytRx Strike Out Lou Gehrig’s Disease All Star Invitational Tournament is a popular summer event that gives young baseball players from the Conejo Valley Little League and the Thousand Oaks Little League opportunities to help ALS patients live a better life, and supports efforts to discover new medical treatments for this devastating disease. Sponsored by CytRx, Natural Balance Pet Foods, Taco Bell, Easton, and Ernst & Young, the fourth annual tournament was held in Thousand Oaks on July 17-20, 2008. The 2008 Tournament set a number of records, including the most money ever raised by the tournament, and the most teams ever participating in the tournament. The Chapter holds expert seminars with panelists addressing critical issues for caregivers, to help them provide the best care possible for ALS patients, and also learn how to take care of themselves while they care for others. In 2008, the Chapter also began offering Caregiver Days at our Support Group locations, providing caregivers with special opportunities to learn more about new caregiving techniques, and to share their challenges and triumphs caring for ALS patients. Meeting the Challenge of ALS "Ask the Experts" Educational Symposium The ALS Association Greater Los Angeles Chapter and the ALS Center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center presented an educational seminar on Saturday, June 14, 2008 in the Harvey Morse Auditorium at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
